Andrew Scholz
I am currently a journalism student at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh with an emphasis in writing and editing. Also I am working on a minor in creative writing and considering another emphasis of photo journalism. The main goal I wish to accomplish with my writing is to write movie reviews for various publications.
Most of my experience as a writer has come from working with the University newspaper. I learned how to handle working on a deadline as well as working with an editor to craft a story. Also, with the articles written for the newspaper a lot of self editing needed to be done. The editors would briefly explain what might need addressing and then it was up to the writer to take it from there. On top of all of that most students took their own photos for their stories. This helped to capture a photo that was aesthetically pleasing, not distracting and tonally correct.
Some of the courses I have completed which aided in my understanding of writing are: literature and film, writing for the media, intro to mass communication, modern literature, writing based inquiry seminar and media photo. Some of my photography work can be found here: www.were-going-to-need-a-bigger-blog.blogspot.com/
